Montana authorities investigate bear attack near Columbia Falls
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and the U.S. Forest Service are investigating a bear attack that occurred on August 31 around 7 p.m. The incident took place on the Cedar Flats trail complex north of Columbia Falls while a woman was walking her dog.
The victim sustained significant injuries and was transported to Logan Health Medical Center for treatment. The species of the bear involved has not yet been identified.
Authorities, including the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office, utilized a thermal infrared drone to search for the animal, but the bear was not located. As a precaution, Forest Service officials have closed the area to the public.
