Monte Goj wildfire sparks calls for emergency forest management in Como

A devastating wildfire has struck Monte Goj near Como, Italy. While the fire has been largely contained, it has not been completely extinguished. Local political representatives from the Democratic Party and Europa Verde have called for immediate reflection and a strategic plan to mitigate future risks.

Local officials highlighted that the accumulation of unremoved timber following a July 2023 storm, which felled approximately 6,000 trees, may have contributed to the heightened fire risk. Emergency response efforts involved the Fire Brigade, Civil Protection, local police, and Carabinieri. The fire has impacted the neighborhoods of Lora, Albate, and Muggiò.
