Monte Morrone wildfires reignite near Roccacasale

Wildfires on Monte Morrone have reignited following intense heat and wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h. Although the fire had previously been declared extinguished, the resurgence caused new smoke plumes to appear near Roccacasale, approximately one kilometer from the town center.

Emergency response efforts have been bolstered by the decision to maintain the emergency base on-site. Approximately 100 personnel, including firefighters, Civil Protection volunteers, and members of the 9th Alpini Regiment, are working to contain the flames. Aerial support includes six aircraft, such as helicopters and Canadair water bombers, to reach difficult terrain.

Authorities are utilizing high-tech drones for precise monitoring and a five-kilometer firebreak to assist ground crews. The fire has impacted significant areas of Mediterranean scrubland, causing environmental damage to local habitats and fauna.
