Monte Pelmo climber rescued after 20-meter fall

A 29-year-old climber from Verona was rescued from Monte Pelmo after falling over 20 meters along a rock face. The incident occurred on September 1, 2026, after the climber and his partner had completed the Masucci–Franceschetti route to celebrate its 60th anniversary. After reaching the summit and unroping to begin their descent, the climber slipped and fell, eventually managing to cling to a small ledge at an altitude of approximately 2,400 meters.

The Suem helicopter from Pieve di Cadore performed a delicate rescue operation near the edge of a fog bank. A rescue technician was lowered via a 30-meter winch to reach the climber, who had sustained a serious foot injury and various contusions. Both the injured climber and his partner were airlifted to safety, with the injured man being transported to a hospital in Belluno.
