Mountain rescue operations in the Italian Dolomites

Overview

Recent reports highlight separate mountain rescue operations in the Italian Dolomites involving climbers in distress.

In late August, a 53-year-old climber was rescued from the Campanile di Val Montanaia after a navigational error during a rappel left him dangling in free space. Alpine rescuers utilized technicians and 200 meters of rope to reach the individual and secure him safely.

Following this, on September 1, a 29-year-old climber was rescued from Monte Pelmo after a 20-meter fall. The climber had managed to cling to a ledge at approximately 2,400 meters after slipping during a descent. A helicopter rescue operation was conducted through a fog bank to airlift the injured climber and his partner to safety.
