Montenegrin airports to undergo modernization and capacity expansion

The Montenegrin government intends to accelerate the modernization of infrastructure by forming an inter-agency coordination body to increase the capacity of Podgorica and Tivat airports by the next tourist season. This initiative includes the development of a long-term master plan involving international partners.

Damjan Radulović, president of the union, has expressed support for the decision to allow airports to remain under state ownership while pursuing independent development. However, he emphasized that the master plan must be accompanied by job security and rewards for employees. Radulović called for a special legal regime or 'lex specialis' to provide the airports with greater business flexibility, specifically regarding procurement processes for specialized equipment, to prevent lengthy bureaucratic delays.

Additionally, the union is calling for internal reorganization to strengthen operational, technical, and professional services rather than reducing staff numbers.
