Montenegrin NGOs challenge court rulings over child's care

Non-governmental organizations in Montenegro, including ‘Centar za dječija prava’ and ‘NVO SISTEM’, are calling for an urgent review of court decisions regarding a three-year-old child diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

The dispute centers on a recent temporary measure requiring parents to rotate care every two weeks during the child’s intensive three-month medical treatment in Belgrade. Advocates argue that this rotation disrupts the stability, routine, and continuity of care essential for a child with autism. They emphasize that medical documentation recommends the active presence of the mother as a collaborator in the therapeutic process.

‘Centar za dječija prava’ has questioned the professional assessments used by Judge Mirza Ademović and court experts, demanding to know how the emotional impact of separating the child from the mother was evaluated. The organizations are urging Montenegrin institutions to prioritize the best interests of the child over administrative decisions that may conflict with the child's current developmental and health needs.
