Montenegrin Parliament denies conditioning German official's meeting on meeting with Speaker

Montenegrin Parliament German Bundestag Anton Hofreiter diplomatic misunderstanding Andrija Mandić

Boban Stanišić, the Secretary General of the Parliament of Montenegro, has denied allegations that a meeting for Anton Hofreiter, Chairman of the Bundestag Committee for European Union Affairs, was conditioned upon a prior meeting with Speaker Andrija Mandić.

Stanišić clarified that the situation arose from a “communication misunderstanding” between the Parliament General Secretariat and the German Embassy. This misunderstanding led the German Embassy to issue a verbal note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Stanišić emphasized that the communication was purely technical and that Speaker Mandić was neither involved in nor aware of the matter.

While reports suggested the meeting with the Committee for European Integration was planned for September 30, Hofreiter's office confirmed he will visit Podgorica next week, though no meeting with Mandić is currently scheduled. Stanišić stated that the matter has since been fully clarified through direct communication with the German Embassy and Bundestag representatives.
