Montenegro nears final stages of EU accession process

Montenegro is entering the final stages of its European Union accession process. During a conference in Sofia, Deputy Prime Minister Filip Ivanović stated that the country is on the “final line” of its European path and emphasized that the enlargement policy must remain credible and based on fulfilled criteria.

Ivanović expressed gratitude for Bulgaria’s strong support for Montenegro’s integration. Bulgarian Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova-Chamova praised Montenegro’s progress, noting that the country serves as an example of how political will and commitment to reforms lead to results.

In a separate diplomatic engagement in Lithuania, Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević announced that Montenegro aims to close all remaining negotiation chapters by the end of the year. She expressed expectations that the finalization of the Accession Agreement will occur during Lithuania’s presidency of the EU in the first half of next year. Gorčević emphasized that Montenegro seeks full membership with equal rights and responsibilities within the Union.
