Montenegro and Bulgaria discuss defense cooperation and EU integration

Montenegrin Defense Minister Dragan Krapović met with Bulgarian Ambassador Stefan Dimitrov and newly appointed envoy Colonel Hristo Hristov to discuss strengthening bilateral defense cooperation. Krapović highlighted the importance of unified action among allies given current geopolitical circumstances.

During the meeting, Krapović outlined Montenegro’s defense spending plans, noting that allocations for the current year are expected to exceed 2% of GDP, with a long-term goal of reaching 5% of GDP by 2035. He also detailed ongoing projects to modernize the capacity of the Montenegrin Armed Forces, specifically focusing on improving aviation capabilities.

The discussions also covered Montenegro’s progress toward European Union membership.
