Montenegro and Croatia to meet in Zagreb over ‘Jadran’ ship dispute

Montenegro and Croatia have agreed to hold the first meeting of commissions tasked with resolving the ownership dispute over the sailing ship ‘Jadran’ on October 9 in Zagreb.

The Montenegrin commission will be led by Minister of Defense Dragan Krapović. While Krapović expressed hope for a friendly and cooperative atmosphere aimed at finding sustainable solutions, he emphasized that the Montenegrin government’s stance on the ship’s ownership remains unchanged.

The two nations maintain conflicting positions: Croatia asserts that the ship belongs to them with Split as its home port, while Montenegro disputes this claim. Krapović noted that while Montenegro is open to possibilities such as joint training exercises, the nature of military and training vessels requires them to sail under a single flag, making multilateral management or dual flags unfeasible.
