Montenegro and Serbia allocate nearly €2 million for cultural‑heritage projects

The government of Montenegro approved a 2026 Cultural Heritage Protection Program that will co‑finance 54 projects with a budget of €769,000. The program builds on a 2025 initiative that supported 64 projects worth €917,000, of which 15 have been completed and 49 are ongoing. The funding targets archaeological research, conservation documentation, and promotion of intangible heritage.

In Serbia, the Ministry of Culture and the municipality of Bajina Bašta signed a contract worth 25 million dinars (about €1 million) for the fourth phase of the Museum of Cyrillic. Including previous investments, nearly 95 million dinars have been spent to convert an old school into the museum, which aims to popularise Cyrillic script and will host its first travelling exhibition on the historical prohibition of Cyrillic.

Both initiatives aim to preserve and promote regional cultural assets, with the Montenegrin program focusing on grants to owners and custodians, and the Serbian project emphasizing public outreach and education.
