Serbian cultural heritage funding expands 2026
Overview
In June 2026, Serbia’s Ministry of Culture launched extensive funding initiatives for heritage and infrastructure. Early allocations included 10 million dinars for conservation at the Church of Saint George in Oplenac and 5 million dinars for the restoration of the Sahat Kuli tower in Prijepolje via the "Gradovi u fokusu" program. In Knić, funds were directed toward digital heritage and cultural center equipment, while Prokuplje received over 31 million dinars for library construction and museum digitization. Additionally, 31.28 million dinars were earmarked for the Archaeological Institute in Belgrade to support sites like Medijana.
In early July, 10.8 million dinars were allocated to complete the Holy Trinity Church in Gornji Adrovac. Concurrently, Montenegro approved a €769,000 Cultural Heritage Protection Programme for 54 projects. In Serbia, the municipality of Bajina Bašta secured 25 million dinars for the fourth phase of the Museum of Cyrillic, bringing total investment in the site to nearly 95 million dinars. Bečej also received 20 million dinars for the Rural Museum, though officials noted this remains below the 35 million-dinar estimated cost.
By mid-July, co-financing rounds provided tens of millions of dinars to major municipal broadcasters in Niš, Leskovac, and Vranje, while Kragujevac secured a grant for the "Miholjskih susreta sela" rural festival. In August, Knjaževac was awarded 17.83 million dinars to modernize its cultural center, support the Zavičajni museum, and reconstruct the St. Panteleimon Church in Kalna.
