Montenegro Court Extends Detention of Dual‑National Haris Monić Over Multi‑Ton Cocaine Trafficking

The Council of Montenegro’s Supreme Court decided on 9 June to extend the pre‑trial detention of Haris Monić, a dual citizen of Montenegro and the Netherlands, until 10 November. The court said there is a reasonable suspicion that Monić participated in creating a criminal organization and in five separate offenses involving the illegal production, possession and distribution of narcotics.

According to the court, Monić is alleged to have helped a network founded by Ljubo Milović and Mileta Ojdanić move more than four tonnes of cocaine from Ecuador to Europe. Shipments were routed through Belgium to the Netherlands and Germany, with quantities reported as 500 kg via Antwerp to Hamburg, 793 kg and 846 kg via Belgium to the Netherlands, 1,044.71 kg to Belgium, and 985 kg to Belgium. The detention was extended due to flight risk and the seriousness of the crimes.
