Montenegro discusses climate policy alignment with EU officials

Montenegrin Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development, Damjan Ćulafić, met with representatives from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) to discuss the country’s progress in climate policy and alignment with the EU acquis.

Ćulafić stated that Montenegro has established a significant legislative and institutional framework for climate action and is now transitioning toward full practical implementation. Key topics of discussion included the establishment of a monitoring, reporting, verification, and accreditation (MRVA) system, the adoption of essential bylaws, and progress regarding greenhouse gas emission inventories and land use, land-use change, and forestry (LULUCF) sectors.
