Montenegro faces political tension and new pension proposals
Political tensions are rising in Montenegro as discussions emerge regarding the potential removal of Assembly Speaker Andrija Mandić. Some political circles suggest an alliance between the opposition, led by the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), and members of the current ruling majority could trigger early parliamentary elections and destabilize the government of Milojko Spajić.
Simultaneously, the DPS has introduced a new economic platform titled ‘Plan za sve’ (Plan for All). DPS President Danijel Živković announced a proposal to increase all pensions by 30 percent starting January 1, 2027. The plan aims to raise the average pension from 551 to 716 euros and the minimum pension from 456 to 593 euros. Živković stated that the funding for these increases would come from rationalizing state administration costs, such as reducing expenditures on consultants and official vehicles, rather than through new debt.
