Montenegro advances energy efficiency projects in public buildings and tourism

Montenegro is advancing several energy efficiency initiatives across public infrastructure and the tourism sector. The Ministry of Energy and Mines announced the completion of energy reconstruction works at the ‘Vuk Karadžić’ primary school in Berane. This project, part of the ‘Promotion of Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings of Montenegro’ (PEEPB) initiative, was supported by the European Union and the KfW Development Bank through the Regional Energy Efficiency Program for the Western Balkans.

In Bar, the municipality has launched the AidEE project, a regional initiative aimed at improving energy efficiency in public facilities. The project includes a major modernization of the Topolica Sports Hall, featuring new LED lighting and an artificial intelligence-based system for predictive monitoring and energy management. This 1.29 million euro project is supported by the Interreg VI-A IPA Program and involves partners from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro.

Additionally, the Government of Montenegro has moved forward with a proposal to encourage energy efficiency within the hotel sector. This program involves cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and the Fund for Environmental Protection. Other government actions include reviewing financing for the Mateševo–Andrijevica highway section via the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and addressing personnel matters within national railway companies.
