Montenegro intercepts 25 tons of expired Brazilian meat in transit

Montenegrin authorities have intercepted a shipment of 25 tons of expired meat from Brazil that was in transit through the Port of Bar. Vladimir Đaković, Director of the Administration for Food Safety and Phytosanitary Affairs, stated that the shipment was destined for Kosovo but was detected during routine customs and veterinary inspections.

As a result of this incident, Montenegro has implemented a ban on importing meat from Brazil that was certified after September 3. Đaković noted that the country's food safety controls are aligned with European Union regulations, and inspectors are currently conducting enhanced sampling of all Brazilian beef shipments and 100% inspection of all poultry shipments from the country. The disputed meat will either be destroyed or returned to the sender to ensure it does not enter the local or regional market.
