Montenegro MP Boris Mugoša supports constitutional immunity reforms

Boris Mugoša, a Member of Parliament for the European Alliance, has announced his support for constitutional amendments in Montenegro regarding the immunity of the President and members of the Government. Mugoša stated that these changes aim to prevent the potential abuse of immunity mechanisms, noting that previous parliamentary majorities have used the requirement for parliamentary approval to selectively strip immunity from opposition members while protecting those within the majority.

Mugoša emphasized that the goal is not to create an epochal solution but to reform procedures that have been subject to political manipulation. He argued that political office should not serve as a shield against criminal responsibility.

Additionally, Mugoša addressed claims regarding the scope of constitutional changes, accusing the current majority of manipulating the narrative. He clarified that while an agreement between the government and opposition focused on judicial reforms to be adopted by September 4, the current government has introduced other amendments that were not part of those specific negotiations.
