Montenegro advances EU accession with progress on key negotiation chapters

Montenegro is advancing its European Union accession process, with officials reporting significant progress in key negotiation chapters. European Affairs Minister Maida Gorčević stated that the country has fulfilled nearly all requirements for the temporary closing of chapters 23 and 24, focusing on rule of law and anti-corruption reforms. She expects remaining obligations to be completed by the end of the month.

In the transport sector, Minister Radoš Zečević announced that Montenegro is prepared to close negotiation chapter 14, with a target date in mid-October. This progress coincides with planned infrastructure projects, including the reconstruction of the Bar–Podgorica railway and various road bypasses.

EU Ambassador Johan Satler emphasized that while the EU and its member states are ready to support Montenegro in its final accession steps, the country must independently complete critical tasks regarding the rule of law and judicial integrity. Meanwhile, political analysts noted that Montenegro currently leads the Balkan region in progress regarding the opening and closing of negotiation chapters.
