Bosnia and Herzegovina leaders negotiate government formation after elections

Following the general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, political leaders have entered intense negotiations to form new governments at various levels. In the Presidency, Darijana Filipović has been elected as the new Croatian member, expressing her intent to focus on foreign policy, European integration, and ensuring equality for Croats.

At the federal and cantonal levels, coalition building remains complex. In Sarajevo Canton, the SDA, SBiH, and DF parties have announced a potential majority of 18 out of 35 representatives, though constitutional procedures regarding the election of assembly leadership may pose challenges. Semir Efendić, leader of SBiH, stated he will not seek a Prime Minister position.

High-level discussions are ongoing between major party leaders. Dragan Čović (HDZ BiH) has held meetings with Bakir Izetbegović (SDA) and Nermin Nikšić (SDP) to discuss stability and the European path, while also planning talks with Milorad Dodik (SNSD) in Banja Luka. HDZ BiH continues to prioritize amendments to the Election Law as a key demand for future partnerships. Meanwhile, SNSD maintains that its role in government reflects the will of the Serbian people.
