Montenegro plans airport expansions in Podgorica and Tivat

Montenegro is planning significant expansions for its airport infrastructure to accommodate surging passenger traffic. A new document outlining priority activities proposes the creation of an inter-ministerial coordination body, which would be chaired by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić.

At Podgorica Airport, plans include adding two new gates, expanding terminal space in the departures zone, and adapting arrival areas. The project also involves expanding the main terminal building via a steel structure to create new functional spaces and reorganizing parking facilities. Additionally, the installation of an 850-meter high-voltage cable is planned to ensure reliable electricity supply.

In Tivat, authorities are considering the possibility of a dedicated VIP terminal for business aviation. The expansion efforts are driven by a substantial increase in travelers; between January and July 2026, Podgorica and Tivat airports served over 2 million passengers, a 19.4 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The plan also includes analyzing the potential use of military airport infrastructure in Podgorica and the Kapino Polje airport in Nikšić.
