Montenegro police investigate illegal logging and animal cruelty

Montenegrin police have reported several criminal incidents involving environmental crime, animal cruelty, and illegal land use.

In Jelovica, authorities discovered 1,018 cubic meters of illegally felled timber, valued at approximately 140,000 euros. The Berane police and prosecutor's office are investigating the theft and working to identify those responsible for the devastation of the forest fund.

In Bijelo Polje, two individuals face criminal charges for forest theft. One suspect allegedly hired another to fell beech and birch trees without authorization, while another is accused of felling 52 oak trees in the Lješnica area.

In Mojkovac, a resident was charged with the illegal occupation of state land and unauthorized construction of a permanent agricultural facility in Brskovo.

Additionally, police are investigating two cases of animal cruelty. In Danilovgrad, a Japanese Akita was wounded by gunfire, an act the prosecutor classified as animal killing and torture. In Budva, a cat was reportedly injured by an air rifle.
