Montenegro prosecutors seek seizure of Kavač clan assets
The Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) has requested the permanent seizure of assets belonging to high-ranking members of the ‘Kavač clan’. The request targets individuals including Radoje Zvicer, Milan Vujotić, Slobodan Kašćelan, Igor Božović, and Dragan Knežević, asserting that the wealth was obtained through criminal activities.
The targeted assets comprise a wide range of property, including apartments, houses, business premises, garages, land, and forests distributed across various Montenegrin municipalities. The SDT claims to have provided evidence linking the property to criminal proceeds, even in cases where assets are formally registered to family members or third-party companies.
Legal experts suggest this case serves as a critical test for Montenegro’s new asset forfeiture system. A key challenge will be the state's ability to distinguish between assets legitimately owned by family members and those formally transferred to them to hide the true ownership of convicted criminals.
