Montenegro transport: Railway workers seek raises as municipalities propose law changes

The Unified Union of Railway Transport Workers of Montenegro (ŽPCG) is seeking a salary increase of 200 euros per month. Following a recent warning strike that disrupted rail traffic in Podgorica, union representatives are meeting with Transport Minister Radoš Zečević to discuss the situation. The union is awaiting a response from the Ministry of Finance regarding budget rebalancing, which is necessary to fulfill the workers' demands and finalize a new collective agreement.

Simultaneously, the Association of Municipalities of Montenegro has proposed amendments to the Law on Road Transport. The initiative aims to allow neighboring municipalities to jointly organize suburban transport lines to better serve citizens commuting for work, school, and healthcare. This proposal seeks to create a more robust legal framework for inter-municipal cooperation and improve transit efficiency in peripheral areas.

Additionally, local representatives have called for improved connectivity between Danilovgrad and Podgorica, specifically requesting more bus stops and the implementation of unified monthly transit passes for students, employees, and pensioners.
