Montenegro reports no active wildfires following heavy rainfall

After more than 50 days of extreme drought and high temperatures, Montenegro has reported that there are currently no active wildfires. Minister of Internal Affairs Danilo Šaranović stated that overnight rainfall helped extinguish remaining hotspots in municipalities including Nikšić, Šavnik, Plužina, Pljevlja, Kolašin, Danilovgrad, Podgorica, and Cetinje. Authorities will continue to monitor the terrain using drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras to detect potential underground hotspots.

In a separate environmental development, Montenegro's Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development, Damjan Ćulafić, announced significant progress in establishing a climate legislative and institutional framework. Following discussions with the European Commission's Directorate-General for Climate Action, the country is moving toward the practical application of its climate monitoring and reporting systems to align with EU standards.

Meanwhile, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, wildfires have caused significant damage this summer, with approximately 40,000 hectares burned across the country. Reports indicate that human negligence or intent has been a primary driver behind many of the more than 200 fires recorded this season.
