Montenegro requests $15 million for climate adaptation in schools

Montenegro has requested $15 million from the Adaptation Fund to implement a project aimed at preparing schools across the country for the impacts of climate change. The initiative, proposed by the Ministry of Ecology in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, includes infrastructure improvements, courtyard landscaping, and specialized training for both students and teachers.

Zoran Dabetić, State Secretary in the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development, noted that Montenegro has a total allocation of up to $30 million available through the Adaptation Fund. This specific request represents half of that allocation. The projects must align with the National Climate Change Adaptation Plan.

If approved, the funds are expected to become operational by the end of 2027. A decision from the Adaptation Fund is anticipated by the end of this year. Due to the scale of the funding, officials expect the project to cover a significant portion of schools throughout the country.
