Montenegro develops national framework for alternative fuel infrastructure

Montenegro is working to develop a National Policy Framework for alternative fuel infrastructure, a project funded by the European Union. During a recent workshop organized by the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Energy and Mines, experts emphasized that the development of this infrastructure must be integrated with the needs of transport companies and the capabilities of the electrical grid.

Zorana Sekulić, General Director at the Ministry of Energy and Mines, stated that energy and transport policies must be planned together. She noted that while Montenegro has some existing charging infrastructure, it currently lacks sufficient power and strategic distribution along major transport corridors. She highlighted the need for the distribution system operator, CEDIS, to be involved from the earliest planning stages.

Industry representatives, including Jovan Dašić from Montenegro Bonus, noted that the transition to electric vehicles, such as heavy trucks, depends on more than just vehicle price. Carriers require certainty regarding charging reliability, total costs, and the ability to maintain business operations. It was suggested that initial electric truck projects focus on regular distribution routes where schedules and charging times are predictable.
