Montenegro Supreme Court extends detention of drug trafficker Dragan Pečurica
The Supreme Court of Montenegro, acting on a proposal from the Special State Prosecutor's Office, extended the pre‑trial detention of Dragan Pečurica until 7 October 2026. Prosecutors allege he participated in a large‑scale cocaine operation in May 2020, organizing the transport of 380 kg of cocaine from the ship Donousa to the Gothenburg archipelago in Sweden, with subsequent transfers to Norway and storage in Gothenburg. The case also alleges four counts of money‑laundering, involving €1.04 million from the Netherlands to Budva, €230 000 from Croatia to Bar, and €1.665 million from Spain to Podgorica, intended to conceal the proceeds of the drug trade. The court justified the extension on grounds of flight risk and the danger of re‑offending.
