The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) has initiated a formal process to dismiss Andrija Mandić from his position as Speaker of the Parliament of Montenegro. The move was triggered by Mandić's public expression of condolences following the death of Ratko Mladić, a war criminal convicted of genocide in Srebrenica. Opponents argue that such actions damage the international credibility of Montenegro and its aspirations for European Union membership.

Thirty-five Members of Parliament have signed the dismissal initiative, with a request for a parliamentary session to be held on September 24. Support for the dismissal includes the DPS, the European Alliance, the Bosniak Party, and the Albanian Alliance. Conversely, Mandić has maintained that there is no majority to remove him and characterized the campaign against him as a series of falsehoods.

In response to the controversy, the European Alliance parliamentary club has announced plans to propose amendments to the Montenegrin Criminal Code. These amendments aim to explicitly define the public glorification of individuals convicted of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes as a criminal offense, seeking to close existing legal gaps regarding the honoring of convicted war criminals.
