Benjamín Noval wins junior double at World Championships in Montreal
Spanish cyclist Benjamín Noval achieved a historic double victory at the UCI Junior Road World Championships in Montreal, Canada. The 17-year-old Asturian rider first secured the gold medal in the individual time trial, completing the 20.3-kilometer course in 25 minutes and 17 seconds. He finished 6.35 seconds ahead of Belgium’s Vic De Smet.
Noval followed this performance by winning the junior men’s road race, completing the 134-kilometer course in 3 hours, 3 minutes, and 36 seconds. He broke away from the lead group with approximately 25 kilometers remaining, ultimately finishing 42 seconds ahead of France’s Simon Defrance. This achievement makes him the first Spanish rider to complete the junior double in the same edition of the World Championships.
Currently riding for the MMR Academy, Noval is scheduled to join the Netcompany Ineos team in 2027. His performance in Montreal places him among elite junior talents such as Remco Evenepoel.
