Monumental Stadium in Lima will no longer host Pope Leo XIV
The Monumental Stadium in Lima will no longer host the prayer vigil with young people scheduled for Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Peru in November. Monsignor Guillermo Inca, the national coordinator for the papal visit, announced that the change was necessitated by insurmountable technical issues.
The Pope is scheduled to visit Peru from November 11 to 16, with stops in Lima, Pucallpa, Chiclayo, and Cusco. The youth event, originally planned for November 12, was intended to feature artistic expressions and life testimonies. While the Monumental Stadium has a capacity of approximately 60,000, organizers are currently evaluating a new venue for the gathering.
Despite the event being free of charge, rumors have circulated regarding stadium box owners attempting to rent out spaces for the meeting. Monsignor Inca addressed these claims, emphasizing that all papal encounters are free and that dioceses will be responsible for distributing access to the faithful.
