Moravian-Silesian Region: Over 20,000 drivers must renew licenses

More than 20,000 drivers in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic must replace their driving licenses by the end of this year. The highest concentration of expiring documents is in the Ostrava area, where over 6,000 licenses are set to expire. Other significant numbers include Frýdek-Místek (2,716), Opava (2,111), and Havířov (1,791).

Drivers can apply for replacements online via the Transport Portal using bank identity, which allows them to complete the process from home. While new licenses can be collected for free at government offices, there is a fee for delivery to pick-up points or boxes.

Nationwide, more than 202,000 driving licenses are due to expire by year-end. The Ministry of Transport has proposed extending the validity of newly issued documents from ten to fifteen years to reduce the administrative burden on both citizens and authorities.
