European driver license expiration surges
Overview
Large numbers of drivers in Lithuania and the Czech Republic are facing mandatory driver license renewals due to the expiration of older documents.
In Lithuania, Regitra reported that approximately 72,000 drivers must replace laminated licenses issued a decade ago between October and February. The renewal volume is expected to peak in January with roughly 22,000 drivers.
In the Czech Republic, over 20,000 drivers in the Moravian-Silesian Region must renew their licenses by the end of the year, with the highest concentration in the Ostrava area. Nationally, more than 202,000 licenses are set to expire by year-end. In response to the administrative burden, the Czech Ministry of Transport has proposed extending the validity of newly issued documents from ten to fifteen years.
