Moravian‑Silesian Reservoirs Stay 85‑100% Full During Summer Drought

Reservoirs managed by the state enterprise Povodí Odry in the Beskydy and Jeseníky mountains of the Moravian‑Silesian Region remain 85 % to 100 % full despite low river flows in the summer. The water levels, reported at 180‑355 daily water units in some streams, are considered very good for the season.

The reservoirs continue to release water to stabilise river discharge, securing drinking water, industrial supply and ecological needs without imposing any new restrictions on water withdrawals. According to General Director Miroslav Janoviak and Technical Director Tomáš Skokan, the dams constitute a strategic reserve that protects ecosystems and supports recreation, fish habitats and dilution of wastewater. Each second about 3 500 litres of water are supplied, with a total stored volume of roughly 380 million cubic metres.

Hydrologists are closely monitoring flows and water‑use permits to ensure compliance with legal limits while maintaining adequate river levels throughout the drought period.
