Morawiecki proposes new migration management plan for Poland
Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, representing the Rozwój Plus association, has unveiled a comprehensive migration management plan aimed at increasing national security. The proposal, detailed in a report titled 'The Safest Country in the World,' includes several key pillars.
One central proposal is the creation of an online immigrant account to track the legal status, employment, and criminal or traffic history of foreigners in Poland. Morawiecki also proposed establishing a specialized deportation service modeled after the United States' Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Other elements of the plan include setting annual limits on non-EU work visas (between 35,000 and 50,000), implementing a 'Return to Poland' program for emigrants, and requiring 'unconditional assimilation' through the study of Polish and European culture. Failure to comply with assimilation requirements could result in deportation.
Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski criticized the initiative, comparing the proposals to those of the German AfD party. Sikorski warned that such policies could have negative economic consequences for businesses operating across the Polish-German border.
