Morbihan heatwave triggers orange vigilance and cooling actions in Lorient
Météo‑France placed the French department of Morbihan under orange vigilance for a heatwave starting on Tuesday 7 July 2026, with expected maximum temperatures of 35‑39 °C. The prefect urged residents to keep homes cool, stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during the hottest hours and watch for signs of heat‑related illness.
In Lorient, municipal authorities responded by reopening the Moustoir aquatic centre free of charge, reactivating public fountains and installing additional air‑cooling, fan and misting devices in childcare facilities. The city also activated a “Plan Bleu” in its local EHPAD to intensify monitoring of elderly residents, extended opening hours at the day‑centre for homeless people, and urged vulnerable individuals to register for the communal solidarity and prevention register.
These measures aim to protect the general public, especially children, seniors and those without shelter, from the health risks posed by the prolonged high temperatures.
