Morebús project in Morelia moves ahead with lane cut and flood control works

In Morelia, Michoacán, the Morebús rapid‑transit system is under construction. At the Tres Puentes railway overpass, authorities have temporarily reduced one lane on the Pedregal‑Lázaro Cárdenas direction to allow heavy machinery and excavation for the exclusive Morebús lane. The Secretaría de Desarrollo Urbano y Movilidad (Sedum) says the measure is preventive, with no additional road closures expected beyond the existing temporary closure at the Obelisco, and work is being accelerated during the vacation period to limit traffic impact.

Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla announced that the project will also address chronic flooding in the western part of the city. Coordinated with the Comisión Nacional del Agua (Conagua), hydraulic works will be added to improve storm‑water drainage. The governor noted that Morebús will serve more than 120,000 daily riders, offering modern, accessible buses with internet and charging stations. Sedum reports overall progress of about 11 percent, with two kilometres of track completed and upcoming asphalt resurfacing on the new lanes.
