Morelia expands public transport hours and launches cable‑car system

The Michoacán state government announced a new mobility model for Morelia that will extend public‑bus service hours from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and reorganise existing routes as feeder lines to the Morebús rapid‑bus network, mirroring a similar scheme already used in Uruapan. Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla said the changes aim to serve workers, students and night‑shift employees, while the transit authority also began a pilot to digitise vehicle operations.

In a separate rollout, the city’s cable‑car (teleférico) project will link more than 65 neighborhoods, directly benefiting 18,157 homes and over 51,500 residents, including 2,777 people with disabilities. The system will feature seven stations—Estadio, Eduardo Ruiz, Primo Tapia, Obelisco, Ciudad Universitaria, Zoológico and Santa María—each serving a 500‑metre catchment area. Officials highlighted the project’s potential to cut travel times, improve access to education, work and health services, and promote inclusive, sustainable mobility for thousands of Morelian families.
