Morelia hosts summer food festivals and free folk dance showcase

The city of Morelia, Michoacán, announced a series of summer cultural events. On August 8‑9 the third Festival of the Gordita will be held on Calle Campeche in the Molino de Parras neighborhood, featuring 15 local cooks and 20 entrepreneurs, with an expected attendance of about 1,000 people and an economic boost of roughly 100,000 pesos.

From August 14‑15 Santa María will host the 19th Feria del Mole, presenting 19 mole producers to an anticipated 6,500 visitors and generating an estimated 600,000 pesos in economic activity. The following weekend, August 22‑23, Capula will hold the First Encounter of Cooks, expecting 2,000 attendees and a 100,000‑peso impact.

A free folk‑dance performance, "Morelia siente la danza," will take place on Saturday, August 8 at 19:00 in the Palacio Municipal. The show, organized by the municipal Secretariat of Culture, will be performed by the Morelia Ballet Folklórico under the direction of maestro Efraín Hernández Farfán and includes more than 30 young dancers. The event aims to provide cultural access during the summer vacation period.
