Morelia implements reforestation and wildlife rescue plans

Authorities in Morelia, Michoacán, are implementing environmental protection and reforestation initiatives alongside major infrastructure projects. The Secretariat of Communications and Public Works (SCOP) is reforesting 72 hectares across 51 kilometers of the city's second peripheral ring. This project involves planting more than 36,000 endemic trees, including species such as pine, ash, mesquite, and oak, to improve local environmental conditions.

In conjunction with these efforts, biologists have rescued and relocated 664 animals, including birds, reptiles, and small mammals, to protected areas like Cerro del Águila.

Additionally, the Secretariat of Urban Development and Mobility (Sedum) is advancing an environmental plan for the Morebús project. This includes the replanting of rescued jacaranda trees in urban corridors. These trees were previously held in municipal nurseries for treatment before being relocated to ensure their survival and to increase green spaces within the city's transit zones.
