Morelia International Film Festival announces 24th edition selection

The 24th edition of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) has announced its official selection, featuring 96 Mexican films. The competition includes various categories: the Michoacán Section, Mexican Short Film Section, Mexican Documentary Section, and Mexican Feature Film Section.

Directors from 17 different Mexican states are represented in the selection. Notably, 40% of the works are directed by women, and four films are created by directors from indigenous communities. The films will compete for ‘El Ojo’, a sculpture by artist Javier Marín, along with economic incentives and other prizes.

Winning short films in fiction, animation, and documentary categories, as well as the winner of the Mexican Documentary Feature Film category, may be eligible for automatic Oscar® nominations. Additionally, some selected short films may be invited to the Cannes Film Festival Critics' Week in 2027. The festival is scheduled to take place from October 16 to 25, 2026, with both in-person screenings in Morelia, Michoacán, and virtual options.
