Morebús transit project implements environmental compensation in Morelia

The Morebús transit project in Morelia, Michoacán, is implementing environmental mitigation measures to address the removal of vegetation during construction. Authorities state that while 613 plants and trees have been identified for relocation or removal, the project includes a comprehensive reforestation plan. This plan aims to plant 32,000 trees, including 12,000 specimens over two meters tall, to offset the impact and reduce urban pollutants by an estimated 42%.

Morelia Mayor Alfonso Martínez Alcázar confirmed that the removal of trees in the Tres Puentes area complies with environmental permits, noting that for every tree removed, at least three larger ones must be planted. The Secretary of Urban Development and Mobility, María Elena Huerta, highlighted that the project focuses on urban vegetation rather than forest areas, and includes the installation of vertical gardens on railway overpasses.
