Morebús project implements environmental mitigation in Morelia

The Michoacán government is implementing environmental mitigation strategies for the Morebús transit project in Morelia. The Secretaría de Desarrollo Urbano y Movilidad (Sedum) has reported the rescue and transplanting of 110 trees along the route to date. Specifically, in the Tres Puentes area, project adjustments will allow for the relocation of 27 trees to nearby sites, such as the Río Grande riverbank, rather than their removal.

Authorities clarified that of the 613 specimens identified in environmental assessments, 434 are classified as exotic species, invasive plants, or shrubs, such as jacarandas and eucalyptus. To compensate for the infrastructure work, Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla announced a reforestation campaign aiming to plant 32,000 trees across the capital.

Additionally, the Morelia Zoo is conducting surveillance in the Tres Puentes zone to protect urban fauna during construction. Specialized personnel are monitoring nests and burrows to ensure the responsible handling and relocation of local wildlife in coordination with federal authorities.
