Michoacán launches secure corridor in Los Reyes-Jacona region
Michoacán Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla has launched a secure corridor in the Los Reyes-Jacona region to bolster security along one of the state's most vital economic routes. The highway carries over 20,000 vehicles daily and is critical for the movement of goods, including the avocado industry.
The security operation is a coordinated effort involving the National Guard, Civil Guard, SEDENA, municipal police, and local indigenous self-governments. The strategy includes permanent patrols, constant surveillance, monitoring, emergency response, and roadside assistance within both the main transit routes and connected communities.
This deployment follows a mandate from President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to reinforce regional security. Additionally, SEDENA has deployed 1,557 military personnel across Michoacán to combat extortion networks. While these measures aim to stabilize the agricultural sector, analysts from ACLED warn that increased security in avocado-producing areas may displace criminal activities to other sectors, such as lemon production.
