Morelos implements strategies to expand local producer market access
The state government of Morelos is implementing several strategies to boost the commercialization of local products and support organized producer groups. Through the “Del Campo al Mercado” initiative, the Secretariat of Agricultural Development (Sedagro) aims to connect more than 400 local producers directly with markets, reducing the influence of intermediaries.
The program operates in phases, starting with local consumption through spaces like Tiendas Tlalli and the Cuautla Central de Abasto. The second phase focuses on national expansion, providing technical training to over 500 crops, including tomato, onion, and cucumber, to meet the quality standards of major supermarket chains. Negotiations are currently underway with Walmart to facilitate the weekly shipment of 20 tons of fresh produce, alongside an agreement with CONACCA to link local production to 69 wholesale markets.
Additionally, local artisans and producers from municipalities such as Tetela del Volcán, Yecapixtla, Hueyapan, and Palpan recently participated in the Second National Social Economy Meeting. Supported by the Secretariat of Economic Development and Labor (SDEyT), these groups presented items including artisanal mezcal, textiles, and poultry, generating approximately 200,000 pesos in direct sales.
