Morelos replaces earthquake-era provisional classrooms with permanent structures
The government of Morelos has begun replacing provisional classrooms that have been in use since the 2017 earthquake with permanent concrete structures. Érika Salgado Patiño, head of the State Institute of Educational Infrastructure of Morelos (INEIEM), confirmed that these mobile classrooms are being phased out to address long-standing demands for dignified and safe educational spaces.
A comprehensive strategy is being implemented from October 2024 through July 2026, with a budget exceeding 515 million pesos. This investment aims to support more than 74,800 students across 34 municipalities. The plan includes 170 works and 377 improvement actions, such as the construction of 95 new permanent classrooms, 39 roofs, 52 perimeter walls, and 99 general rehabilitations. The project also covers the building of workshops, equipped laboratories, and functional sanitary modules.
