Morena adjusts electoral timeline for Tamaulipas candidates
The Morena party in Tamaulipas is adjusting its internal calendar for the 2027 electoral process. Rómulo Pérez Sánchez, president of the State Political Council, announced that the call for mayoral candidates is expected by the end of August. The process will limit candidates to six per municipality—three men and three women—who will be evaluated through surveys.
Local deputy Katalyna Méndez Cepeda is currently deciding whether to run for mayor of Victoria or seek a seat in the local or federal legislature. She stated she is waiting for official party guidelines and national instructions regarding alliances with the Green Party and the Labor Party.
In response to these developments, PAN deputy Gerardo Peña Flores accused Morena of using survey results as a strategic tool to create a perception that election outcomes are already decided, aiming to discourage voter turnout and weaken opposition candidates.
