Morena advances internal candidate selection for 2027 elections

Morena is moving into the final phase of its internal process to choose coordinators for the 2027 elections. National leader Ariadna Montiel defended Andy López against accusations of early campaign activity and said the party continues to review the backgrounds of hundreds of aspirants. A meeting in Michoacán brought together governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, senator Raúl Morón, deputy Leonel Godoy and the head of internal elections Citlalli Hernández, who said profiles are evaluated on trajectory, public recognition and commitment to the movement. The party aims to cut the number of aspirants from 277 to about 102, using interviews, surveys and telephone polls, and has extended the registration deadline to the end of August. Current federal deputies are not required to resign to seek coordination positions. Gladyz Butanda emphasized that the true opponents are external right‑wing parties, urging unity among Morena members. In Chihuahua, Cruz Pérez Cuéllar asserted he has no problems with his U.S. visa, dismissing allegations as a "dirty war". The internal selection will shape Morena’s candidate slate for the 2027 gubernatorial contests across Mexico.
