Morena and PT alliance faces tension over gubernatorial candidates

Tensions have escalated between the political parties Morena and the Partido del Trabajo (PT) following the designation of state coordinators for the 2027 gubernatorial races. In 10 of the 17 states where elections will be held, the designated coordinators belong exclusively to Morena, with no representation from the PT.

A significant point of contention occurred in Zacatecas, where the PT expected to be granted a position. Instead, Morena appointed Verónica Díaz Robles, a figure close to the Monreal Ávila family, bypassing other profiles such as Ulises Mejía Haro, Geovanna Bañuelos de la Torre, and José Narro Céspedes.

In response, PT national leader Alberto Anaya Gutiérrez has distanced the party from the Presidency and the National Elections Commission. Benjamin Robles, a member of the PT National Coordinator, stated that the party will no longer accompany Morena in the presentation of state coordinators, defending the position of Senator Geovanna Bañuelos.

Further friction is anticipated in Nuevo León, where the PT supports Jesús Elizondo, while Morena faces internal competition among candidates including Waldo Fernández, Tatiana Clouthier, Andrés Mijes, and Felipe de Jesús Cantú.
